Dragon Boat Races and Festival
August 26, 2017, Riverfront, Montgomery, Alabama
The Dragon Boat Races and Festival will take to the water Saturday, August 28th for their 8th year here in the Capital City!
The Dragon Boat Races and Festival benefits two local non-profits, Bridge Builders Alabama and Rebuilding Together Central Alabama.
The Races are an all-day affair, but the action on the water is just part of the entertainment. The Park will be alive with local food vendors, exhibitors, artists, and live music from the Amphitheatre stage!
Race Day is an all-day affair, with races running from about 8:45am until the Championship race around 4:00pm. The Opening Ceremony officially starts the event, then the rounds of heats begin. These determine placement in divisions for the afternoon racing following the hour-long lunch break. Racing to determine winners of each division run through the afternoon, culminating in the Grand Championship Race and Trophy Presentation!
Festival highlights can be found elsewhere throughout the grounds on Race Day. Local food vendors, exhibitors, artists, and other small businesses will have booths spread throughout the park. Strategically-located drink stations will serve cold alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages all day, and the children will have a place to play at the Children’s Village with inflatables and the Splash Pad!
This event is free and open to the public! The entrance to the park is located through the tunnel at 246 Commerce Street. An information tent will be located just inside the park near the tunnel. Free Race Guides and a map of the Festival grounds will be available there. See the “Venue Info” tab for information on the park.
Registration is officially open, so teams, start signing up your crew and begin fundraising! August approaches fast once the summer hits, so get a jump-start on your preparations for Race Day by signing up now! See “Register Now” for instructions!
